4 reasons to return to face-to-face education

The return to school attendance is a fact that was ratified with resolution 2157 of December 2021, it was determined that in 2022 100% attendance would have to be given in the country's educational institutions.

Parents and teachers made memorable efforts during the health contingency to ensure that students still received a quality education. However, according to the Inter-American Development Bank, although school enrollment rates remained stable during 2020, they had little evidence of whether students were engaged in meaningful learning activities. Furthermore, research indicates that students who have missed more than half a year of school are at a much higher risk of leaving their education permanently. (Mercedes Mateo-Berganza, IDB Education Division Chief).

For children it is vitally important to have moments that allow them to relate and interact with their teachers and classmates in a joint and intentional way; enjoy meaningful environments and experiences, that educational spaces and face-to-face education offer to explore the world around them, through play and exploration, thus weaving better human relationships.

Therefore, we want to tell you four reasons why you should return to face-to-face attendance in school environments with an adequate and safe protocol:

1. The experiences that children have in kindergartens drive their growth and learning, their cognitive, physical, emotional and social development. During the first years of human beings, the experiences that children live are definitive in the formation of neural connections and in the development of skills that will allow them to take on the challenges that the world presents on a daily basis.

2. The return to attendance has even greater effects on the development of the most vulnerable children, it breaks the digital and learning divide of hundreds of children who could not study because they did not have access to the internet, a computer, tablet or cell phone to live the experiences proposed by the teachers, from home.

Also, because many of them also receive a significant percentage of their nutrition in educational centers; which ensures their adequate physical and health development, providing support to vulnerable families.

3. The gardens become spaces for socialization that prevent violence, educational centers focus their efforts not only on accompanying the cognitive development of children, but also their socio-emotional development.

Kindergartens provide spaces for dialogue that support the processes of children and the family dynamics of their home to prevent a situation that puts them at risk, through training meetings for families and caregivers with care and upbringing practices, among others.

4. Kindergarten builds better human relations. The interactions with their teachers and classmates in a joint and intentional way allow them to develop the ability to coexist with respect, understanding the importance of empathy, ethics and politics in their role as citizens of the world. By socializing with others assertively, childhood anxiety and depression are prevented.

Now that you know the benefits of returning to preschool in person, we invite you to discover the Safe Return to Preschool courses on the aeioTU Network to accompany your child or student in this process:
