Learn about the story of Whinny and his family from the aeioTU Moravia center in Medellín


Whinny is a girl who has been part of the Educational Experience at the aeioTU Moravia center in Medellín since 2018. During the time we shared in person, Whinny always showed herself as a happy, participative, creative and conversational girl; in addition, she always showed feelings of gratitude, sympathy and understanding with her classmates and teachers.


During the time of reception in the center, challenges were evidenced in the dynamics that involved her family; since a rigorous follow-up was not visible against Whinny's upbringing guidelines and hygiene habits. From the center we activate protocols of approach with her family to provide strategies to improve some practices that will ensure the integral development and well-being of the girl.


Due to the pandemic, we had the opportunity to follow up closely through constant communication that allowed us to understand a family context that was not easy to identify before. Whinny's family was going through particular economic and psychological situations that daily generated tension among its members, affecting the teaching process of her daughter.


Understanding that the context of the caregivers is just as important as that of the children in their process, the Moravia educational center work team (teacher, psychosocial, coordinator and workshop leader), started a strategic plan to help the family.


Thanks to the active listening, observation, follow-up and empathy shown by the team, Whinny's family allowed entry to their house virtually, achieving better communication and joint work, where Whinny and his family started little little by little to integrate more, sharing more moments of play and experiences that led to warmer interactions and that allowed her parents to recognize the importance of their own well-being in order to be able to follow their daughter's processes.


We understood then that the well-being of the caregiver is very important to accompany the child's development and learning. Listening to the adult, understanding their dynamics, her needs, allows us as teachers to use comprehensive strategies that can assist all families.
